Raising the Flag in New Orleans to Honor Resilient Community

The Humana Foundation focuses its support on seniors, school age children and veterans. Volunteers from Humana Foundation and Humana Inc. came together in New Orleans to help support the men and women living at Bastion, a community of resilience.

Bastion is an intentional community in which wounded, ill or injured veterans live alongside retired military and civilian volunteers. Residents at Bastion benefit from helping others which promotes well-being and a sense of satisfaction. The Bastion approach restores families, reduces stress at home and expands social networks to strengthen resilience.

Led by Tiffany Benjamin, Humana Foundation CEO, a team of associates worked together to plant flowers and erect a long-awaited flagpole for the community.

“At the Humana Foundation, we are focused on listening to communities, centering community voice and then doing things to support what communities need,” said Tiffany Benjamin. “That fits in our model of making sure that we're doing things that impact people, impact underserved communities, impact diverse communities and make sure that everybody feels that they're valued and connected to their world.”
