How Family Dynamics Drive Dental Care Decisions and What Providers Can Do

Dental Photo.jpeg

New data from Humana reveals that family dynamics play a pivotal role in dental care decisions, especially for parents with children younger than 18 years old. Parents are more likely to plan for both emergency and cosmetic dental costs, prioritize paying for dental insurance, and engage in preventive care. Our study found that nearly half (46%) of parents prioritize paying for dental insurance compared to only 32% of nonparents.

The research highlights the need for dental providers to offer flexible, family-focused insurance options and preventive plans, which will help families manage dental costs and maintain good oral health habits on a
long-term basis. Providers have a unique opportunity to ease the burden through innovative insurance partnerships.
