Dana Lives Her Passion for Creating Community at Humana

During the 25 years since Dana first came to work at Humana, her sense of purpose has been deeply rooted in a desire to do meaningful work to benefit others. From ensuring that members “receive the best care by the best providers” to changing how our employees experience the workplace, Dana is driven to make a difference.

For Dana, Humana network resource groups (NRGs) have provided a consistent source of community connection. She began her NRG journey in the Caregiver network during a time that she was her mother’s caregiver and she sought connection with others with similar experiences.

“The Caregiver NRG was a shining light in a sea of darkness, confusion, anxiety and despair,” said Dana.

As Dana joined other NRGs at Humana and her involvement increased, so did her visibility. She shared with us how she found her voice within the IMPACT NRG, Humana’s network resource group for Black and African American employees and allies.

As co-lead for the IMPACT communications committee, Dana helped to curate a bi-weekly newsletter that helped employees get connected to the NRG. Dana said, “this was a space where I could share my interests, thoughts and experiences. We helped other employees find their community and voices, too.”

Dana is now a member of each of the ten NRGs at Humana and is thrilled to serve as Enterprise Lead for Network Resource Groups.

“Being a part of the NRGs helped my professional development by expanding my network, creating opportunities for skill development and increased visibility.” To help others grow, Dana recommends we each “find a safe space to use your voice. If none exists, create one and invite others. Once you find your purpose, hang on to it and let it be the driving force for your decisions.”
