Louisville, Ky. – Humana (NYSE: HUM) is making investments into 24 additional community-based organizations in multiple states totaling $169,000 during its latest health equity grant-cycle, reinforcing Humana’s commitment to improving access to care and quality of care while addressing barriers to healthy living by focusing on unmet social needs.
“Humana is committed to supporting community organizations that are at the front line of advancing health equity every day,” said J. Nwando Olayiwola, MD, MPH, Chief Health Equity Officer, and Senior Vice President for Humana. “This support will further drive health equity by strengthening capacity for some of those organizations leading important work in our communities.”
Humana has organized its health equity strategy into three core areas:
“The inaugural 2023 health equity grant cycles were launched to support initiatives and organizations within Humana’s footprint, deepening our engagement with those we serve,” said Tamara Smith, Associate Vice President of Strategy Advancement at Humana. “As we move into 2024, we aim to build upon our local partnerships and support communities where health disparities are the greatest.”
Recipients were selected from applicants within Humana national partner communities and chosen based on alignment with the above core areas, health equity-related programming, and ability to demonstrate a commitment to long-term solutions. The small grants ranged from $2,500 - $9,000. The following organizations received grant funding:
Community-based organizations (CBOs) have direct knowledge of the immediate health-related issues their communities face and are trusted resources that can help surmount barriers to care. By investing in them, Humana can be a force for positive change by increasing access to health screenings, overcoming food and housing insecurity, improving maternal health and much more.
