When it comes to budgeting for dental care, not all generations approach it the same way. New Humana research reveals that younger patients, especially Generation Z patients, are more proactive than their older counterparts.1 38% say they prioritize planned dental expenses, compared to just 26% of Generation X and 27% of baby boomers.1 Yet, even with this proactive mindset, 1 in 5 Gen Z and millennial respondents admit they never set money aside for unplanned dental costs or emergencies.1
Meanwhile, older generations face their own unique challenges. Many members of the Silent Generation rely on Medicare and may assume dental care is already covered, as 55% report never saving for planned care and 60% said they don’t budget for unplanned needs.1
These insights highlight the importance of tailoring communication and plan design to meet each generation’s financial realities. In other words, by providing flexible plan options and education that shows how different age groups think about dental costs, providers and insurers can help patients stay proactive about their oral health, no matter their stage of life.
