Humana inclusion and diversity

Our Network Resources Groups Are Building Company-Wide Pride

Pride, Humana’s Network Resource Group (NRG) for LGBTQ+ employees and allies, is a voluntary, employee-driven professional networking organization comprised of individuals who value inclusion and create value in the community. The Pride NRG’s mission is to foster an inclusive, supportive and safe workplace culture for LGBTQ+ associates and to influence Humana to help our LGBTQ+ members achieve their best health. Pride strives to nurture a sense of belonging and acceptance, allowing individuals to feel comfortable bringing their whole selves to work, school or any other environment where they might face challenges or discrimination.

Providing Support and Fostering Partnership
Members of Pride serve as powerful advocates, amplifying the voices and concerns of the LGBTQ+ community through in-person and virtual social events, educational programs, and professional development and speaker events on a range of topics that effect positive change and ensure that the LGBTQ+ community’s needs are understood and respected. Recognizing the profound effects discrimination can have on a person’s health and well-being, Pride also hosts Courageous Conversations, providing a safe space for NRG members to share their feelings around difficult events such as the mass shooting at Club Q in Colorado Springs, Colo., in November of 2022.

The experiences of our LGBTQ+ employees provide insight and optimum care for our members and patients.  Carolyn Tandy, SVP and Chief Diversity Equity and Inclusion Officer shared, “By caring for our LGBTQ+ employees, customers, patients and members, we are working towards our commitment to put health first for all we serve. It is important to recognize how we care for one another contributes to our business imperatives. The true impact of our work rests in our understanding and appreciation for our collective power and for one another, recognizing we all benefit from and deserve dignity, respect and belonging.”

Pride is focused on identifying and securing partnerships and works with nationally recognized and trusted LGBTQ+ organizations to strengthen the support system for the community and offer greater experiences for NRG members and Humana associates at-large. Pride also collaborates with Humana executive leadership to identify meaningful connections and actions that cement our commitment to LGBTQ+ equity and inclusion. Collaborating with executive leadership demonstrates that insight from the LGBTQ+ community is valued within the company.

Advancing Allyship and Lifting Community
Pride offers educational opportunities and maintains a spectrum of learning tools, resources and activities to help all employees in their allyship journey. “Pride is intentional, focusing on education that gives the LGBTQ+ visibility but we also provide allies and others with the education and resources they need to be mindful and inclusive of the LGBTQ+ population,” said Robert Bertrand, Co-President of the Pride NRG. “Visibility is key in creating a safe space where representation is accurate, and voices are heard and respected.”

The Pride NRG also works to create LGBTQ+ visibility and display Humana’s culture of inclusivity in the communities we serve. Members of the NRG participate in Pride parades and festivals throughout the country and organize volunteer opportunities to give back to community-based organizations.

The Pride NRG is open to all Humana employees, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, as we build a culture of inclusion where everyone can live full, proud and healthy lives.
