MarketPoint Agents and Humana Members Develop Special Relationships

Ms. Rachel loves to bake cakes and 22 years ago, she opened a restaurant—Mama's Eats-n-Sweets—in Jackson, Miss. The family-owned restaurant draws in customers with its Southern soul food and home-style cooking. Ms Rachel fosters loyalty among her customers as she treats them like family. 

The restaurant is where Ms. Rachel met Denise Westerfield, a Humana MarketPoint agent, 11 years ago. Denise treats her member clients like family, too. She enjoys taking the time to get to know them, understand their needs and support them with a personal touch.

MarketPoint agents like Denise conduct in-home sales appointments—or in this case, an in-restaurant appointment—to get to know the person. Denise carefully listened to Ms. Rachel’s needs and helped her navigate her Medicare options to find the best fit for her.

Describing her relationship with Denise now, Ms. Rachel said, “She's not just an insurance agent, she's more like a friend.” 

“I personally view my career as an opportunity to change lives,” said Denise. “I follow up with my members. If they need encouragement, I have encouragement cards that I keep on hand. If I have a member that calls and has a diagnostic test coming up or maybe surgery, I always make sure that I call and let them know that I'm thinking about them.”

When Ms. Rachel was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019, Denise was there to support her and give words of encouragement. Denise was there again this year when Ms. Rachel was diagnosed with lung cancer.

“I told Ms. Rachel, ‘We’ve been through this before. That’s okay.’ She’s gonna get through this as well. She was a cancer survivor once. She’ll be a cancer survivor again.

“I was able to be with her from the beginning all the way through her procedures and her surgeries. That's so important to me and that's important to Humana. We want to continue to pass on that human care to let them know that not only do we care, but we're going above and beyond anything that they may need to change their life.”
