Thousands of Vietnam War-era veterans are participating in welcome home events across the country this week as part of National Vietnam War Veterans Day, celebrated annually on March 29, and in support of the nationwide
Humana is an official partner of the Commemoration Program and supports pinning ceremonies across the country to help thank Vietnam War-era veterans and their families for their service. As part of the 50th anniversary commemoration, all who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time from Nov. 1, 1955, through May 15, 1975, regardless of their duty location, are invited to attend a pinning ceremony to receive a special lapel pin as a lasting memento of their nation’s gratitude.
“Having a great uncle who served in Vietnam and being a veteran myself, there is no greater honor than to welcome home our Vietnam veterans and recognize them for their sacrifices to our great nation,” said Megan Regan, Humana’s Veterans Community Executive for Pennsylvania and South New Jersey. “I am grateful to have the opportunity with Humana, an official Commemorative Partner, to conduct these cherished ceremonies to not only recognize and honor these heroes, but to be a part of the healing process of our Vietnam veterans and their families throughout our communities.”
Regan is one of several Veterans Community Executives participating in pinning ceremonies this week. She will present Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pins to veterans both in Harrisburg and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Humana representatives are also supporting commemorative events in New Jersey, Arizona and Oklahoma.
“As a child, I never understood what a Vietnam veteran went through; as an adult I am grateful to work for an organization that loves veterans and wants to give back to them,” said Beth Blume, Humana’s Veterans Community Executive for Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma. “Every Vietnam veteran deserves that ‘thank you’ for their service and ‘welcome home,’ and I love that I get to be a small part of that.”
Blume is supporting a welcome home pinning ceremony at the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City, with about 300 veterans expected to attend.
The President of the United States and Congress established the Vietnam War Commemoration Program in 2012, enlisting the assistance of Commemorative Partner organizations, like Humana, at the local, state and national levels to conduct events that honor millions of Vietnam veterans and their family members. The 13-year commemoration runs through Veterans Day 2025.
