Humana Sponsors Sixth Annual Louisville Sports Commission Corporate Games

Humana soccer team winners at 2023 corporate games

A proud sponsor since 2018, Humana was honored to once again sponsor the Louisville Sports Commission Corporate Games on Saturday, June 3, 2023. More than 31 companies were represented at the 2023 Games.

The Louisville Corporate Games is an annual event that encourages friendly competition between Louisville-area businesses and organizations, promotes active lifestyles and enhances the economic vitality of our city. Teams competed in games like basketball, vertical jump, sled push & pull, tug-of-war, frisbee and disc golf. Teams also had the opportunity to earn points for good sportsmanship activities like collecting non-perishable food items for donation, designing team T-shirts and creatively decorating team tailgating areas. Over 2,500 company employees and their family members competed in the Games this year.

Tarica Dow, Humana Accounts Receivable/Payable Professional, was one of over 100 Humana employees that registered to participate in the 2023 Games. This year Tarica competed in the lawn pong event, in which teams go head-to-head to win best of three 2-minute matches, trying to land basketballs in six large buckets at a distance of 25 feet. “I’ve been competing in the Corporate Games ever since Humana first participated. I love having this opportunity to get to work with my teammates in a totally different and competitive way. We encourage each other and keep one another motivated to stay active and put our health first,” said Tarica.

Humana brought home the trophy for the 4x4 soccer tournament, won first place in the women’s sled push & pull, and came in second or third place for many of the other events during the 2023 games.

The Louisville Sports Commission launched the Corporate Games in 2017 to champion a positive environment that encourages employee health and fitness, builds a sense of company spirit and fosters teamwork and fun through participation. “When the Louisville Sports Commission launched the Louisville Corporate Games, our goal was to create an event that encourages employee health and wellness in a fun environment,” said Julie Howell, Chief Revenue Officer for the Louisville Sports Commission. “Participating companies have embraced the event and many spend months planning their competition strategy while maintaining their sense of teamwork. The partnership with Humana has allowed us to build on the event's success and has resulted in positive growth in the types of games offered and the number of teams participating - all while keeping to the event's core objectives of friendly, active competition.”

Since Humana began participating in the Games, Darryl Tucker, Humana Claims Process and Project Management Business Support Professional, has served as Humana’s team leader. “I’ve found my passion in health and well-being at Humana, and the Corporate Games are a great way for me to help my teammates find joy in physical activity,” said Darryl. “They also help create a sense of belonging – some of us get together on weekends all year long to exercise together.”

At Humana, we put health first and encourage our employees and customers to maintain an active lifestyle.
