Together, Humana Healthy Horizons (Humana’s Medicaid plan) and Boys & Girls Clubs of America have made great strides to advance health equity in local communities across the United States – a mission Humana associates take personally. Now, in a new video series, 10 Humana associates set out to educate Boys & Girls Clubs of America members on how they can improve their overall well-being through healthy living and active learning.
“My favorite healthy habit is gardening – growing my own produce, vegetables, fruits and being able to take that and serve that to my family,” said Dr. Nwando Olayiwola, chief health equity officer and senior vice president at Humana in her “healthy habit” video. “When you’re done, no matter how hard the planting was, you see the fruits of your labor, and you’re able to eat them from the farm to your table.”
The video series will support the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s “Healthy Habits” curriculum across its 4,700 Club footprint by sharing healthy habits youth can easily integrate into their routine, such as nutritional recipes, breathing exercises, fitness activities and simple ways to increase time standing each day. The dynamic wellness program equips young people with skills to adopt healthier habits by participating in fun and engaging learning activities at Clubs and at home, with the goal of encouraging young people to take small steps toward positive behavior change.
