2022 Humana Awards, Recognitions and Community Impact

Reflecting on the past year, we see not only our accomplishments, but also strong evidence that Humana is improving the health and well-being of all we serve.

We are committed to transforming the healthcare industry, and we’re beginning that transformation by intentional growth within Humana. We’re creating a culture of belonging where our employees can fully be themselves at work, because we know doing so makes Humana better able to serve our customers and our communities. Recognition for our inclusion and diversity and workplace programs, especially becoming a Certified Great Place to Workopens, are especially meaningful because of that.

Our employees enable us to work harder than ever, delivering value, compassion, and exceptional service for all we serve, from our health plan members to local communities. When Humana is recognized as US News & World Report’s 2023 Best Overall Medicare Advantage Plan Company, we see that as proof that our efforts to put health first for our customers and teammates are working. And when we think about our  e allows us to make a difference in the world around us.

We’re walking the talk, starting with our CEO. Modern Healthcare recently recognized Bruce Broussard, Humana’s President and Chief Executive Officer, as one of the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare for 2022. Bruce received this award because his industry peers recognize his leadership and his impact on healthcare.

“Our focus day-in and day-out is providing exceptional care and value to our customers. It’s our talented teammates who make this possible,” says Bruce. “Humana teammates are passionate about improving the lives of those we serve, as well as improving the healthcare system. They are what make Humana, and the Humana team, special.”

Medicare Advantage, Customer Experience & Satisfaction
Putting our members and patients first is our top priority. This year we were recognized for providing the best customer experience for our members, ranking #1 for a second year in a row on the Forrester US CX Index Ranking of Health Insurers.

“Our focus continues to be on building trust with our members in every interaction we have with them,” said Jennifer Bazante, Humana Chief Marketing Officer. “Forrester’s recognition of Humana’s efforts to go above and beyond for our members is a validation of our strategy to always put our members first.”

We received the 2023 Best Overall Medicare Advantage Plan Company from US News & World Report, as well as top ratings for Best Member Experience and Low-Premium Plan Availability.

“Throughout this year, we really focused on listening to our members and delivering the quality and value they want and need for positive health outcomes,” said George Renaudin, President, Medicare at Humana. “This recognition from U.S. News that followed the announcement of our strong Star ratings for 2023 shows us we are getting it right for our members.”

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Celebrating diverse backgrounds and creating an environment of inclusion is at the heart of Humana. Our diversity, equity and inclusion efforts received numerous recognitions this year including a top-10 placement on the DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list and another perfect score for the ninth year in a row from the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index.

DiversityInc’s Top 50 list is the most rigorous, data-driven analysis of diversity management practices in corporate America. The results are derived from corporate survey submissions from companies with at least 750 employees. Companies are evaluated within the context of their own industries.

“Diversity is our strength, and the secret driver for our innovation and creativity. We are honored to be acknowledged by DiversityInc for creating a workplace where all employees, no matter who they are, feel like they can be their best selves, bring their full selves to our organization and do their best work,” says Carolyn Tandy, Chief Inclusion and Diversity Officer. “Creating a space of inclusion and belonging has been, and will continue to be, our commitment to our employees, to the communities we serve and to our nation overall.”

Workplace, Employer of Choice & Culture
Not only are we committed to providing the best for our members, but our commitment to our employees is stronger than ever. It is our goal to nurture a culture where our employees feel that they belong and are supported in both their professional and personal lives.

This year we were officially recognized as a Certified Great Place to Work™. The award is based entirely on what current employees say about their experience, and this year, 83 percent of employees said Humana is a great place to work.

“Our employees are the heart of Humana. We owe our company’s continued success to our dedicated team of people,” said Tim Huval, Chief Administrative Officer. “We are honored to be Great Place to Work-Certified™. We want to thank our employees for all they do and for helping Humana earn this incredible recognition.”

Additionally, we were named to the Best Places to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality list from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation and received high rankings on the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility Corporate Inclusion Index.

Our commitment to our veteran and military spouse employees was confirmed with our ranking as a Best Employer for Veterans from Military Times, a Patriot Employer from the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and a 2023 Military Friendly Employer from Viqtory Media.

Health Equity, the Humana Foundation & Our Communities
Supporting our communities is important to supporting the whole person health of our members, patients and employees. The Humana Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Humana Inc., supports those communities by working to advance health equity, addressing social determinants of health, providing natural disaster relief and much more.

This year natural disasters impacted the lives of millions of people who faced life-threatening conditions. The Humana Foundation donated $1.5 million to disaster relief including $500,000 to the devastating flooding in Eastern Kentucky and $1 million to support disaster recovery in the wake of hurricanes Ian and Fiona.

In a partnership with Humana Inc., the Foundation and the University of Louisville announced this year an investment of up to $25 million toward the university’s Health Equity Innovation Hub which works to advance health equity and improve health outcomes for marginalized populations in Louisville and communities around the world. Additionally, the Foundation committed $13 million toward health equity innovation and greater health equity for vulnerable populations across the United States.

Joining the Humana Foundation in January of this year, Tiffany Benjamin, CEO of the Humana Foundation, was recently recognized as a Top 100 Most Influential Black American from The Root for her work in driving equity in healthcare.

“We are committed to supporting partners as they listen and respond to the needs of the most vulnerable in our communities,” said Tiffany. “The people we serve are reaching equitable achievements and gaining stability through a living wage, affordable

Looking forward
The experience of our employees is reflected in our many accolades, yet we know that we still have work to do to ensure that every employee feels a sense of inclusion and belonging. We extend our efforts of equity and inclusion to our members and are working hard to advance health equity in our communities.

As another year ends and we reflect and celebrate the accomplishments of the last 12 months, we are excited for the future and confident that we will continue down this path of greatness in 2023.
