Younger patients may rely on social media and digital platforms for health insights, but that doesn’t mean they’re neglecting their dental health. In fact, a recent Humana survey shows that Generation Z and millennials are actively budgeting for both routine and unexpected dental expenses.1 Nearly 60% of millennials and 50% of Gen Z prioritize planned dental costs, which outpaces older generations such as baby boomers (29%) and the Silent Generation (21%).1
When it comes to emergencies, Gen Z is also the most proactive. 19% set money aside every 4–6 months to cover unplanned dental visits.1 These budgeting habits reflect a growing sense of health ownership, particularly among younger patients who value flexibility and affordability.
However, in-network access doesn’t top their list. According to Humana’s survey results, only 49% of Gen Z say they are more likely to visit an in-network provider, compared to 76% of the Silent Generation.1 That’s where education comes in. Providers who communicate the cost advantages of
in-network care can build trust and long-term loyalty with this new generation of patients.
