Forging a Path for Career Growth and Development for Women at Humana

The best leaders do more than blaze a path, they pave the road too and ensure that no one is left behind. That’s exactly what Wakita Johnson, Regional Vice President, Operations for Ohio Medicaid is doing for women at Humana.

Since joining Humana in June 2021, Wakita has championed real change as co-president of our Women’s network resource group (WNRG) and a member of IMPACT NRG, the network resource group for Black and African American employees and allies.

“Being part of WNRG constantly reminds me to think bigger than myself,” she said. “The doors I open and the ceilings I pressure test to bursting are no longer just about me as an individual. I am on a mission to keep the doors propped open and clear the path for others.”

Wakita credits a supportive network at Humana that genuinely cares about her development, growth and well-being. Among those she compliments are her mentor who challenges and advocates for her, a leadership team that encourages her to stretch and grow, and a network of informal mentors and peer partnerships.

“The WNRG leaders are equally as important to my journey and growth as well,” she said. “These impressive women and their accomplishments motivate me to reach for the stars.”

For Wakita, the culture at Humana energizes and motivates her. "Humana feels like home to me. It's a company that shares my passion for caring for people, but it's also a place where I'm safe to speak out and advocate for others. I can be part of a solution here, and that's what gets me out of bed every day."
